INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Ice’s defense of the Clark Cup begins on Saturday, October 3 when the team hits the road to take on the expansion Youngstown Phantoms. The Ice’s home opener is slated for October 17 against Team USA, with puck drop scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Pepsi Coliseum.

The Ice will once again play a schedule composed of 60 games that include 30 home dates, 25 of which will be played on Friday or Saturday.  All home games are scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop, with the lone exceptions being New Year’s Eve which has a 6 p.m. face-off, and the game on February 8, which is slated for a special 12:05 p.m. start time. Indy will play the majority of their home games at Pepsi Coliseum, but will also play a few contests at Conseco Fieldhouse. The downtown dates have yet to be finalized.

With Team USA and the expansion Phantoms joining the league, the USHL will expand its foot print to 14 teams for the 2009-10 season. Team USA and Youngstown will join the Ice in the USHL’s East Division, which also consists of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Chicago Steel, Green Bay Gamblers and Waterloo Black Hawks. The Des Moines Buccaneers move back into the West Division, where they will be joined by the Fargo Force, Lincoln Stars, Omaha Lancers, Sioux City Musketeers, Sioux Falls Stampede and Tri-City Storm.

Highlights on the schedule include another New Year’s Eve home game and two weekend home games in November (11/13, 11/14) where Fargo buses into town for a rematch of the 2009 Clark Cup Finals.
